Writing Docs the Agent Reads

PizzaPi ships this documentation tree with the CLI and points the agent at it in the built-in system prompt.

Path Role
packages/docs/src/content/docs/**/*.mdx Source docs used by the Starlight site.
packages/cli/scripts/compile-prompt.ts Builds a docs index for the prompt: one line per MDX page using the title: frontmatter.
packages/cli/src/config/templates/system-prompt.hbs Adds the pizzapi-docs section and tells the agent where the bundled MDX files live.
packages/cli/src/config/system-prompt.ts Resolves the docs directory: dist/docs in package builds, source docs in development, or pizzapi-docs/ beside compiled binaries.
packages/cli/src/binary-assets.ts Copies packages/docs/src/content/docs into pizzapi-docs/ for compiled binaries.
packages/cli/package.json Copies the docs into packages/cli/dist/docs during bun run build.
  • Use precise title: frontmatter. The title is the agent’s index entry for the page.
  • Front-load the facts. Put the key command, config key, file path, or constraint before long explanation.
  • Use tables for reference material: config keys, environment variables, commands, permissions, and defaults.
  • Keep pages self-contained enough to answer the common question without requiring the rendered site navigation.
  • Cross-link related pages with relative docs paths or normal Starlight links.
  • Do not put essential information only inside Starlight-only components. The agent reads raw MDX, so the plain text inside the file must carry the answer.

Before adding a new page, choose a title the agent can match from a user question, then make the first section answer that question directly.
